Proper concert dress is formal attire. The concert stage is not the place to make a personal fashion statement. It is the place where we come together as a group to perform. We should appear polished and professional. Nothing should be worn that distracts the audience from the enjoyment of the sounds we produce. For that reason the following standards have been established and will be strictly enforced.

Shoes

Student is wearing a dress:

Black character shoes, or black ballet-style flats only (no other heels or shoes

If student is wearing a tuxedo:

Black closed-toe dress shoes only.  No white/light colored soles or other markings..

If student is wearing a Baxter suit:

Any of the above requirements

Boots, Birkenstocks, Crocs, Doc Martens, are NOT dress shoes and not acceptable for stage.

Hair & Jewelry
Long hair must be in a high or low bun, out of the eyes and off the neck.  No ponytails.
Small, unobtrusive jewelry only.

Concert attire is provided to every student by the choir program. It is property of the Samohi Choir and shall be returned at the end of the year. To maintain an inventory of quality wardrobe,  we ask that the following care instructions are followed:

  • Do not cut extra fabric from inside the dress or pant leg at the hem line

  • Do not cut out tags or interior hanger straps

  • Dresses are machine washable in cold water, tumble dry on low

  • Lost or unreturned dresses/Baxter suit/tuxedo will require a $100 replacement fee

  • Since all performance attire looks the same, please label all performance attire pieces with the student’s name on removable labels in case they are misplaced or mixed up.
